BEXLEY HISTORICAL SOCIETY BEXLEY KENT Established 1951

Then and Now is a photographic project started in 2009 using old photos of the London Borough of Bexley from a variety of sources and comparing them to with ones taken from approximately the same position today. We use the word approximately purely because in some cases it may prove to be very difficult to be exactly precise about where the Then photograph was actually taken or maybe even dangerous to take them from that point today!

We welcome any help from people who have any interesting old photographs of the area, certainly previously unseen ones, to contribute to this ongoing project.

The Project is in its infancy and we acknowledge and a big thank to all those people who have been so helpful already with photographs and information to assist us.

The current Work In Progress of the Then & Now Albums are displayed at our regular talks at St Martins Church Barnehurst (see our About Us  page for full address details). The current areas covered are Barnehurst, Belvedere, Blackfen, Bexley, Bexleyheath, Crayford, Erith, Northumberland Heath, Sidcup and Welling with  one or two more to be added.

Some of these areas naturally are currently more comprehensively covered than others.
If you can assist in any way do please do not hesitate to contact the Treasurer, Trevor Tamsett via e-mail at TTamsett@aol.com or by phone on 01322 529027

The Now photo below (TTamsett) from approximately the same place was taken in 2010 and still displays a rural feel despite the built up nature of the surrounding area
